Moving & cancellation

A new address.
A few details to settle.

Plan the subscription change alongside the utility-account change, rather than assuming one automatically updates the other.

Moving can change the electric utility, account number and program eligibility at once. Before you schedule the move, open your subscription agreement and identify the transfer and cancellation rules.

Start with the service territory.

Ask whether the new property is within an eligible territory and whether the subscription can follow you. A nearby address can have a different utility. A new mailing address alone does not establish the right to keep receiving credits.

Find the notice period.

“No cancellation fee” and “cancel immediately” are different statements. An agreement may require advance notice or further processing. Ask which date matters, how to submit notice and how confirmation will be provided.

Make the last bills understandable.

Credits and subscription charges can cover different periods. Ask about charges after your move, unused credits, account closure and any final reconciliation. Save the response with the final utility and subscription statements.

A simple planning note

Keep the planned utility closing date, subscription notice date, provider confirmation and expected final billing date together. If any date changes, ask what else needs updating.

If you are staying put but want to cancel

Use the process specified in the agreement and retain evidence of your request. Confirm the effective date and whether any final charges remain. Do not assume stopping an automatic payment also cancels the contract.

Four questions to send the actual provider

  • Can this subscription transfer to my new service account?
  • What notice, documentation or fee is required?
  • When will charges and credits stop or move?
  • How will any remaining balance or credits be handled?

The answers depend on your contract and local program. This guide is a checklist, not a cancellation request or a statement of a universal right.
