Consumer checklist

Confidence starts
with a clear agreement.

Use a few practical checks to understand the offer, verify who is involved and protect your ability to choose.

Before sharing or signing

Pause.
Check.
Keep a copy.

A helpful explanation should lead back to written terms you can review and save.

Seven questions to keep handy

Identity

Confirm the legal provider, the project and the representative’s authority. Do not assume a marketing company is your utility.

Money

Ask for the credit/pricing formula, all fees, price changes, required payment methods and a complete billing example.

Commitment

Review the term, cancellation process, notice, transfers and what happens if a project or account changes.

Information

Understand why data is requested, who receives it and which permissions you are granting. Separate an inquiry from enrollment.

A useful warning sign

Slow down when
the details disappear.

A pressure-filled sales pitch is a reason to seek written answers and verify the organization.

A “free” or guaranteed claim without terms

Ask exactly what is free, which charges remain and whether the promised saving applies to credit value or the whole bill.

Pressure to decide immediately

Do not let urgency replace reviewing the agreement, expected activation date and cancellation provisions.

Unclear access to your account

Know whether you are authorizing a utility data request, account linking, payment setup or another action. Never share credentials in an ordinary inquiry form.

Unverifiable affiliations

Check claims of utility, government or project affiliation through official sources, rather than treating a logo or verbal statement as proof.

If something is unclear

Ask for a written answer.

Start with the support contact in the actual agreement. For unresolved concerns, look for your state regulator or consumer-protection office through an official government website.

Keep a small record.

  • The offer and required disclosure documents.
  • The signed agreement and any utility/data authorizations.
  • Bills, credit records and payment receipts.
  • Important notices, cancellation requests and written responses.

Get comfortable with the numbers.

Follow an illustrative credit through the utility and subscription bills.
